Assisting with a surgery

Assisting with a surgery
With quick thinking and steady hands the nurses assist the doctor in a surgery.

Our job doesn't stop once we leave the OR.

An Operating Room nurse also has a role outside the O.R. An O.R. nurse is responsible for ensuring the patient is prepared and ready for surgery, this is called pre-op. Some of the things the nurse needs to make sure of is that the patient has been NPO(nothing by mouth) for 6 hours prior to surgery, double check the patient history, check their vitals, medications, and make sure the patient has an understanding of the procedure.  Pre-op is a crucial part of the operating process, and is a great way for the patient to have that trusting bond with the nurse before they are rolled away into surgery.
